THE ANCIENT AND THE NEW

Thursday, September 17th 2020 – 8:30 PM

ORATORIO DI SAN FILIPPO NERI

“Breathtaking”

Bruce Dickey cornetto

Hana Blažíková soprano

Mieneke van der Velden viol

Jakob Lindberg theorbo

Kris Verhelst organ and harpsichord

“Breathtaking”, because the human voice and the cornetto race on breath, but also because the virtuosity of both soloists – Czech soprano  Hana Blažíková and cornetto player Bruce Dickey – won’t miss the chance to take the audience’s breath away. In the Renaissance and Baroque era, the cornetto was considered as an incomparable mimic of all the expressive nuances of the human voice: a title of nobility that would have been inherited by the violin and the flute during the 18th century.
