Concert of the winner of the “Audience Award”

Quartetto Werther

Winner of the “Audience Award” of our Talents Series, Quartetto Werther will perform again at Bologna Festival with a very interesting programme that puts together Schumann’s romantic Quartet op.47, with its typical preeminence of the piano, and two compositions that are rarely performed. Movimento di Quartetto is an unique feature in Mahler’s production, dedicated mostly to orchestral music; it is an exercise in composition, limited to the sole initial movement of a quartet, written by young Mahler, who was a student at Vienna Conservatory at that time. Written by American composer Aaron Copland in 1950, Quartet for piano and strings offers an original synthesis of Schönberg’s twelve-tone system and Stravinskij’s diatonism.
