«Roman Cantatas»

Among the cantatas for solo, ensemble and basso continuo composed by Händel, those proposed in this programme are miniature-sized dramatic scenes, composed during his stay in Rome in 1707-8. They were presumably written for soprano Margherita Durastanti, a virtuoso singer from casa Ruspoli and his future collaborator in theatres in Rome and London. Under the conduction, historically informed, of Roberto Bonizzoni, Roberta Invernizzi has been for many years a perfect performer of this repertoire, combining technical excellence with a remarkable expressive intensity.
