THE ANCIENT AND THE NEW

ORATORIO DI SAN FILIPPO NERI

APOLOGIA DEL QUARTETTO III

Quartetto Jean Paul

Quartetto Jean Paul introduces three faces of the Twentieth Century. From Malipiero’s stylized attempt to restore an archaic cantabile quality with his third quartet Cantari alla madrigalesca, to the pensive reflections of composers such as Šostakovič and Bartók, always in balance between deconstruction and nostalgia for the forms consecrated by Classicism. All of this, over a span of few, tumultuous decades between 1931 and 1974.
