Sophia Liu

At only 16 years old, Canadian pianist Sophia Liu is rapidly emerging as one of the most captivating performers of her generation. Her “phenomenal virtuosity” (bachtrack.com), combined with “poise and authority” (The Boston Musical Intelligencer), has enthralled audiences around the world. Born in Shanghai and raised in Japan, she now resides in Montreal, where she studies with Dang Thai Son. She has garnered numerous awards at international competitions, including First Prize at both the Ettlingen International Piano Competition and the Thomas & Evon Cooper International Competition, as well as the Youngest Semifinalist Award and the Audience Prize at the Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Competition in Brescia, from which the live recordings of her debut album are drawn.
