Marco Polo did not venture to Asia in search of wealth, power, and honours, but to discover a form of civilization. “Il Milione” narrates a journey of knowledge rather than one of conquest. “Non fu mai uomo che cercasse tanto” takes inspiration from this conviction, creating a concert-reading of music, images, and words that follows the diverse routes of Marco Polo’s travels in the Far East, also passing through Persian lands. Sandro Cappelletto reads selected passages in Franco-Venetian language from “Il Milione”, alternating with improvisational musical performances by two masters of Persian music: Kayhan Kalhor, a legendary player of the kamancheh, a bowed instrument of the Iranian tradition, and Kiya Tabassian, a player of the setar, the Persian lute.
