The King’s Singers
The new project by the King’s Singers, the renowned a cappella vocal ensemble founded in Cambridge in 1968, presents itself as a sonic polyptych spanning five centuries, from Palestrina to Arvo Pärt. The current six members of the group have conceived a concert that intertwines iconic symbols of Christianity with music. “In every Christian church,” they say, “there are statues and paintings depicting Christ, the Virgin, Angels protecting humanity, and Demons threatening it.” Each symbol is associated with a triptych of works ranging from William Byrd’s “Haec dies” to Arvo Pärt’s “Zwei Beter,” from Palestrina’s “Regina Coeli” to the more recent compositions of the British composer Geoffrey Poole.
