In Federico Maria Sardelli’s recent essay, “The Face of Vivaldi,” painting, music, and history intertwine in the quest for the true face of the “red priest.” How many and which portraits of Vivaldi are truly authentic? An intriguing investigation for a concert-reading punctuated with refined musical interventions, including the first modern performance of an unpublished aria by Vivaldi.
