MUSIC EDUCATION PROJECTS FOR SCHOOLS

2025/2026

Pinacoteca Nazionale

Quadri sonori

A listening-focused educational project for secondary schools. An interdisciplinary programme developed in collaboration with the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna.

SCHEDULE:

November 2025 – May 2026, Tuesdays at 10:00 AM

The musical instruments depicted in many of the paintings in the Pinacoteca display a wide variety of forms: string instruments such as the lute, Baroque guitar, viola da gamba and viola da braccio; percussion instruments including cymbals, drums and timpani; and wind instruments such as the trumpet, flute and oboe.

Within a combined visual and musical journey, live performances on period instruments bring to life the history and function of each instrument across different iconographic contexts. Particular attention is given to masterpieces such as Raphael’s Ecstasy of Saint Cecilia.

Each session lasts approximately 2 hours.

Tra Tasti e Tastiere

Lecture-concert with guided tour led by Maria Chiara Mazzi, with pianist Marzia Ragazzoni

SCHEDULE:

Wednesday, 5 November 2025 at 10:00 AM

The focus of this programme is on keyboard instruments: the harpsichord, the predecessor of the piano invented by Bartolomeo Cristofori, and the 19th-century pianos played by the great virtuosi of the time. Each stage of the journey is linked to the historic keyboard instruments preserved in the Museum, from the Trasuntino harpsichord (1606) to the Pleyel piano once owned by Rossini and the Érard piano played by Liszt. The programme features music by Scarlatti, Rameau, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt. The musical experience is complemented by a short guided tour through the museum galleries displaying these instruments.

Each session lasts approximately 80 minutes.
