Twenty-Four Preludes, Op. 28
Throughout his performing career, Andrea Lucchesini has consistently shaped his recital programmes by seeking out underlying connections and expressive contrasts. This recital offers a particularly clear example: the intense and dramatic stylistic contrasts of Schumann’s Fantasia in C major and the “narrative” sequence of Chopin’s Preludes, Op. 28, are preceded by two works by Luciano Berio—composers Lucchesini has long championed—namely the Six Encores, written between 1965 and 1990, and the celebrated Sequenza IV for piano (1966), described as “a journey of exploration through the known and unknown regions of sound colour.”
