La Venexiana

Chiesa di Santa Cristina della Fondazza

Caravaggio and Monteverdi share the same historical moment—the age of Mannerism—and the same expressive koiné: the poetics of the affections. It is therefore only natural that they should be brought together in this highly original performance.

Under the banner of “Pur ti miro”—the final duet from L’incoronazione di Poppea—La Venexiana, the ensemble founded in 1997 by the late Claudio Cavina and long devoted to the renewal of the madrigal repertoire, joins forces with Compagnia Teatri 35, which for over twenty years has explored the theatrical practice of tableaux vivants.

In their dialogue, unfolding through the music of Monteverdi, Gagliano, Schütz, Frescobaldi and their contemporaries, image becomes sound and sound becomes vision.
