Orchestra Leonore Daniele Giorgi conductor Alexander Malofeev piano
Malofeev and the Leonore Orchestra: Grieg Op. 16 and Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique”
PROGRAMME:
- Edvard Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16
- Pëtr Il’ič Čajkovskij Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74 “Pathétique”
The legendary Gnessin School of Moscow, founded in the late nineteenth century, has trained generations of Russian pianists. Among them is Alexander Malofeev (born 2001), first introduced to Italian audiences at the age of fourteen in a revelatory performance at La Scala—during the very months in which Daniele Giorgi founded the Leonore Orchestra.
Their fulfilled promises converge in Grieg’s Concerto, a manifesto of Nordic Romanticism, where virtuosity never overshadows the clarity of the melodic line and rhythmic energy remains infused with a constant spiritual tension.
In contrast, Tchaikovsky offers a different yet kindred form of solitude, carried through to his final creative impulses, where music becomes confession.
