  • Richard Wagner Tristan und Isolde: Prelude and Isolde’s Liebestod
  • Gustav Mahler Symphony No. 4 in G major for soprano and orchestra

The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia is the only Italian orchestra to rank among the world’s top twenty, according to BBC Music Magazine. After eighteen years under Antonio Pappano, from the 2024/25 season the orchestra has entrusted its musical direction to Daniel Harding. In Rome, Harding is pursuing a long-term artistic vision that interweaves Wagner’s Ring cycle with the complete Mahler symphonies.

The programme unfolds along two distinct yet complementary paths, both seeking to transcend earthly existence: on the one hand, the opening and closing pages of Tristan und Isolde; on the other, Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 — The Heavenly Life — with its ambiguous, transfiguring light.
