Currentzis in Bologna: Berg “To the Memory of an Angel” and Mahler’s “Titan”
PROGRAMME:
- Alban Berg Violin Concerto “To the Memory of an Angel”
- Gustav Mahler Symphony No. 1 in D major “Titan”
The myth of Teodor Currentzis was forged at the foot of the Ural Mountains, where MusicAeterna took its first steps in 2004: an ensemble assembled one musician at a time, shaped into an artistic community distinguished by its intensity and distinctive sonic energy. This vision gave rise, in 2022, to a new creation: Utopia, an innovative global orchestra making its Bologna debut and marking the return of its guiding force, alongside Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang.
The programme encapsulates the spirit of Vienna at the turn of the twentieth century: on the one hand, the tragic irony of Mahler’s Titan; on the other, the elegiac tone of Alban Berg’s Violin Concerto To the Memory of an Angel, a final tribute to Manon, daughter of Walter Gropius and Alma Mahler.
All proceeds from the concert will be donated to “Il Bosco” Social Cooperative.
